Shrek is "like an onion with many layers" but has a heart of gold. He's my husband and my friend, and we just get better all the time.

lily

lily

Lily is my first baby and only girl. She's smart, funny, tall and kind. Keeping up with this girl is a challenge and a joy. She's terrific!

max

max

Max is one part ogre, two parts lover and all boy! Our little man has a temper but gives the best hugs of anyone I know!

colby

colby

Colby is as ornery as he looks. He flirts shamelessly, even with strangers. He's all mouth and curls and the loudest by far.

Luke is the baby of the family, but holds his own. He's happy and adorable. And he's a terrible sleeper. =)

Going to “Cool”

Ah, my loves… on a crisp, fall morning.

It’s a week past the first day of school, but these are my memories and my snapshots. It was a hectic morning, as most mornings are, but the kids were eager to go. And not just these two, who were cleared for school:

But this little, spunky three-year-old wanted to go too… (“I go cool! I go cool!”)

There’s nothing quite like the first day of school. There’s an energy and a hopefulness that trump everything else.

My kiddos and I always enjoy that first walk to the bus stop and the antics of the other families with whom we wait…

As I said, we’re a week in, and all is well. Our routine is coming along, and new things are being learned. I’m so thankful we live in this great nation, where education is important and in this school district, where parents care, kids show sportsmanship and bus stops are safe.

Lily and Max, do your best! Remember the Golden Rule! (Talk to the kid no one else will!)

And good luck, smartiepants!

Education is not filling a pail but the lighting of a fire.  ~William Butler Yeats

Love the pictures! Colby looks like he fits right in. 🙂 And the Golden Rule is great! I was watching Braden and Riley tonight, and Riley told me they had one new boy in her class. I said, “Are you nice to him?” She looked at me like ‘seriously?’ and said, “Well, yes!” I love kids who are compassionate, and your kids are that. I think our family has been blessed with compassionate kids in that generation. Good parenting. 🙂

Love the pictures and the lesson. The start of a new school year is always exciting. Colby is “cool”. but I know he really wanted to be a big kid and go to “cool”. You are doing such a good job teaching your kids to be compassionate and how to treat everyone with respect. Good for you. They are such sweethearts!

Love it! Some days I want to go to “cool” too…instead of work. They are all so cute in their school gear. Made me miss that old bus stop. I love that it’s the same one I had. Good luck smartiepants indeed!

  4. I always was a little sad on the first day of school. I loved having my kids at home in the summer. That said I do remember the anticipation and excitement of the first day. Colby likes to do everything the big kids do. He will be more than ready when it is his turn! I love your golden rule!
