Welcome, Awesome October
Even when I’m so busy, I forget to get out of my concrete block building at work. Even when Shrek is away at his third football game of the weekend. Even when it’s deer season, and I’m on my own with these four beautiful kiddos.
I love fall. And today is a good day. October 1. Such a clean, hopeful date full of promise. It whispers about crunching leaves, hooded sweatshirts and mugs of cocoa that slide into Thanksgiving, which means family and lifelong friends, and then into Christmas, where magic reigns. Oh, October, you crazy, cozy month. So much beauty and so much promise!
While I am busy, I can see the end of the busy-ness. I know that earning some extra income is the right thing to do right now. And the kids are thriving.
Lily is amazing me with her math skills, which I didn’t have in the upper grades, but maybe I did in third grade? Max wrote out his first long words today. “Mom, how you spell ‘lady bug’? What comes after L-A?” The kid also got lost in the bus system tonight, in spite of having a big sis who is supposed to be head counting to just one every day on the bus to make sure he is there with her! Thanks to Rachel, one of my awesome sitters, for calling the bus garage to get those CBs crackin’ to get my kid found and returned to her home. (You Rock, Rachel!)
Let’s see. Colby is joy in child form. He’s still at that cute chubby three-year-old stage where is head is just slightly too big compared to the rest of his body. Maybe it’s the red curls? Or the facial expressions? All I know is that he has a huge mouth and shady eyes and he uses them in conjunction with his button nose to come up with the most amazing expressions. His face can tell a whole story in about half a second.
Finally, Luke is ever-moving, ever-ornery. He’s climbing on tables, dipping his hand in the toilet bowl, learning to squeal like a banshee to express discontent. He’s basically everything a twenty-month-old should be.
So while I am not at a stopping point with the many projects I have going on, I am at a place where I will be able to relax just a little tad. We’re a bit high-energy around here, so that little bit of wiggle room will work just fine.
Bring it on, October. It’s so nice to see you!
The bus thing is what makes it great to live in a small town where everybody cares about everybody else. Lily probably saw the top of a little boy’s head that looked like Max. 🙂 She does pretty good for a third grader. That’s a really cute picture of the kids. Colby is so ornery it comes out the pores of his skin. All four of them are going to be heart-breakers. Nice blog!
What a perfect description of October. It is a great month and time for the year. I am amazed at all of your kids everyday. The bus story is something else and thank goodness for our little town of Waterford and all the special people that live there. We can be proud.
Oh, the bus….we had a sub a couple of weeks ago, I was waiting in my van in the drive to grab Grant, and rush to Ty’s away football game….the bus pulls up….stops…leaves…NO GRANT!! PANIC!!! It turns to go towards your moms, and I chase it down…WHERE IS MY CHILD? Thank God when I see that smile..the driver says, “Oh, I pulled up too far, so I was just going to drop him off on the way back through”. Me, “YOU DON”T EVER DO THAT TO A MOTHER!!!” Heart failure!!
And he was grinning from ear to ear when he finally made it here.
Erin, great as always. I love Octobers and you nailed it the magic starts now for Christmas. God is good and I love the pics of your kids, your boys are just way ornery 🙂
Blessings,
