I'm Erin Jo. I'm thinking, writing, dreaming, mothering, loving, living, praising, BLESSED to be Fiona to my Shrek and Mommy to my four amazing kiddos.

Shrek is "like an onion with many layers" but has a heart of gold. He's my husband and my friend, and we just get better all the time.

lily

lily

Lily is my first baby and only girl. She's smart, funny, tall and kind. Keeping up with this girl is a challenge and a joy. She's terrific!

max

max

Max is one part ogre, two parts lover and all boy! Our little man has a temper but gives the best hugs of anyone I know!

colby

colby

Colby is as ornery as he looks. He flirts shamelessly, even with strangers. He's all mouth and curls and the loudest by far.

Luke is the baby of the family, but holds his own. He's happy and adorable. And he's a terrible sleeper. =)

A Good Life All the Way

We humans are such a funny lot. We are intelligent, and yet we act foolishly. We are logical but often only after we’ve had the chance to be emotional. What we might do in one situation is not what we do in the next.

There’s a heavy logjam in my brain right now. I’m having trouble getting through to write a simple post. What I can say is that I’ve been surprised by people recently. And I’ve been surprised by myself. I’m struck by how time does heal all, as the old adage goes. Sometimes we need more time, and other times, for some people, too much time has passed.

This realization has led to another: no matter what the past between me and another human being, at some point we are just two human beings, both with flaws and both with gifts. We level out, and, if enough time has passed, we can start again, either figuratively or literally. Sometimes, we have to be the grown-up. As you might suspect, I’m still working through this idea, but I think I’m getting somewhere.

And enough of the heaviness. Because while the wheels of my brain have been churning like crazy, my world of children, camping, job and home has continued. The laundry is piled high. The skin on every member of the family is more tan. The need for sleep is great.

One of the joys of my parenthood is reacquainting myself with the music of my youth as I start CDs for the big kids to fall asleep to each night. You never forget the words to the albums you learned as an impressionable youth.

And so, while I might be all over the place, I think these words, from America’s beloved Jimmy Buffett, might sum it up best:

“Jimmy, some of its magic, some of its tragic /
But I had a good life all the way.”

*Photos all from the local park on Fourth of July after an American pancake breakfast at the firehouse. Brooklyn was with us too, but wasn’t feeling the magic when these photos were taken…

Cute pictures and interesting blog. 🙂 I got one of those great hugs from Max tonight(that you mention with his picture off to the side). What a sweet little boy!
